This week’s episode of Monday Night RAW saw the aftermath of Night of Champions.
Saturday’s Night of Champions saw some big changes for both brands. A new champion was crowned for RAW, The Bloodline imploded and RAW had a new Women’s Champion as well. Join us as we cover the 29th May edition of Monday Night RAW.
The New Champ is Here!
Seth Rollins is officially the new champion of Monday Night RAW. He defeated AJ Styles at Night of Champions this Saturday and kicked off this week’s RAW.
Rollins came through the crowd like The Shield used to, but this time with his own music and a championship with him. He basically just started talking about how proud he was to be the new champion of the red brand before he was interrupted by AJ Styles. Styles came out and really just congratulated The Visionary on winning the championship. They were then interrupted by The Judgement Day, who just bragged about their accomplishments.
The Miz vs Ricochet
This week, The Miz hoped to finally change things for himself and get into the Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match. The only thing standing in his way was Ricochet.
Unexpectedly, The One and Only and The A-Lister put on a really great match. It started with The Miz and Ricochet exchanging counters and takedown attempts. Miz then landed a knee to the gut of Ricochet, who fired back with a kick that sent The A-Lister out of the ring.
In the closing moments of the match, Ricochet sealed his victory with a picture-perfect Shooting Star Press. And with that, The A-Lister is officially out of this year’s Money In the Bank match.
Result: Ricochet def. The Miz
Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark outnumber Becky Lynch; Indus Sher fights two jobbers
After her win over Becky Lynch at Night of Champions, Trish Stratus came out to brag about her win. She was accompanied by Zoey Stark, who helped her win her match against Lynch.
The Man came out and challenged Stratus to a fight. She took out Stark, who was in the aisle, and proceeded to beat down Stratus. Stark eventually recovered and made the save. The two teamed up on Lynch and beat her up. Following this segment, Indus Sher came out to establish their dominance once again. And they did that against two random jobbers.
It wasn’t really much of a match as Veer and Sanga brutally beat their opponents down prior to the match. Once the match started, they ended it in a matter of seconds. So far, the stable has only defeated jobbers for two consecutive weeks on Monday Night RAW.
Result: Indus Sher def. two jobbers
Alpha Academy vs Imperium
Prior to the match, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn came out to celebrate and talk about their victory over The Bloodline this Saturday. They were interrupted by Imperium and the Alpha Academy, who were set to face each other in a match next.
The match began with Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser in the ring. During the match, Kaiser and Vinci took out Otis. However, Gable didn’t go down without a fight. At one point in the match, Valhalla came out and tried to attack Maxxine Dupri. The distraction helped Imperium capitalize and pin Gable for the win.
Result: Imperium def. Alpha Academy
Women’s Tag Team Title Fatal 4-Way Match
The vacant Women’s Tag Team title was up for grabs on Monday Night. Four teams competed in a Fata 4-Way match to crown the new Women’s Tag Team Champions. Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, Bayley & Iyo Sky, and Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green.
The match was surprisingly pretty slow despite all the talent in the ring. It was really towards the end of the match when we finally saw some fast-paced action. As Shotzi attempted a Senton from the top turnbuckle, Rousey caught her in an armbar and made her tap out.
Result: Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler become the new Women’s Tag Team Champion
JD McDonagh vs Dolph Ziggler
Dolph Ziggler had unfinished business with JD McDonagh, who beat up Ziggler after he was eliminated in a Battle Royal couple of weeks ago. The two squared off in the ring in singles action.
They got off to a good start, with Ziggler going after McDonagh right after the bell rang. However, McDonagh gained control and hit him with a suplex. As they took the fight outside the ring, McDonagh attacked Ziggler with steel steps. The match eventually ended in a double count-out.
Result: Double Count-Out
Shinsuke Nakamura vs Bronson Reed
Prior to the match was another Cody Rhodes segment. The American Nightmare came out and addressed his loss on Saturday. He challenged Brock Lesnar to another match and said that if he doesn’t accept it, he’s afraid of Cody.
Next was a MITB qualifying match between Shinsuke Nakamura and Bronson Reed. Reed dominated for the majority of the match as he didn’t give his opponent a single opportunity to strike.
In the end, Nakamura won the match with a Kinshasa to the head of Reed. It was a good match and it was great to see them working together.
Result: Shinsuke Nakamura def. Bronson Reed
AJ Styles & Seth Rollins vs The Judgement Day
This match was set up right at the beginning of the show. AJ Styles and the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins took on Damian Priest and Finn Balor of The Judgement Day.
Judgement Day tried to trick Rollins into thinking Dominik was in the match in place of Balor. However, Rollins slid out of the ring and posed with Rhea Ripley before she realized it was him. It was a hilarious callback to one of Shawn Michael’s funniest moments.
Rollins won the match for his team with a Stomp. After the match, he and Styles posed while the crowd celebrated their victory.
Result: Seth Rollins & AJ Styles def. The Judgement Day
