Payback is less than a week away and there is only one SmackDown left to hype up the upcoming PLE. With John Cena about to make his joyful return to the blue brand next week, SmackDown looks promising.
SmackDown this week saw a Bray Wyatt memorial tribute show with wrestlers remembering him and paying him a tribute. Apart from SmackDown, various superstars like John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and many more paid tribute through the internet. With no rivalries being progressed during this week’s show, only one SmackDown remains for the build-up of WWE Payback. WWE Payback airs live on September 2, 2023, and will be having its go-home shows this week.
With some magnificent returns at the store along with a huge tag match, SmackDown next week might tear the house down.
Jimmy Uso Returns to SmackDown amid the Bloodline saga
The Bloodline story is all broken loose since Jimmy Attacked Jey Uso in his valiant effort to win the championship at SummerSlam. Jey Uso was on the verge of defeating Roman Reigns just when Jimmy Uso made the save. Jey Uso shockingly quit WWE after his loss against Roman at SummerSlam.
Jimmy Uso will make his return to speak about the drama surrounding Bloodline and what he thinks about it. Many fans have speculated that this might be a build-up for Jey vs. Jimmy shortly.
Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar vs. Austin Theory and Grayson Waller
The United States Champion Rey Mysterio will look to defend his title against Austin Theory at Payback. Theory earned a shot at the title after defeating LA Knight last week on SmackDown. With his title match in his sights, Theory would look to injure Mysterio and get the W along with Grayson Waller.
As for Grayson Waller, he would be hosting the Grayson Waller Effect with special guest, Cody Rhodes at Payback.
Legendary John Cena returns to SmackDown
SmackDown will always be the home of John Cena and he will be coming home next week. After nearly two months, John Cena will be making his return to WWE and will be at SmackDown to address the fans. This surely would be a spectacle to watch and people are excited to know what Cena has to offer this time. His last match came at WrestleMania this year against Austin Theory. He also shocked everyone by returning to Money in the Bank earlier this year.
