Money in The Bank is one of the most anticipated pay-per-views of WWE. Wrestlers put their bodies on the line to climb the ladder and grab the MITB Briefcase. 5. Iyo Sky wins the Money in The Bank Contract
Women’s Money in The Bank match had tons of speculations surrounding it. There was already a lot of star power going into the match. Be it the likes of Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus, and Former Miss Money in The Bank winner Bayley. So it was a bit hard to predict who would win the briefcase. The match started with the wrestlers fighting each other with the team of Bayley and Iyo teaming up on Zelina and the team of Trish and Stark teaming up on Lynch.
The match had some memorable moments. Zelina Vega performing a sunset powerbomb on Stark over the ladder was one of the moments. And Iyo Sky performing a picture-perfect Moonsault from the ladder over the wrestlers was one jaw-dropping moment from the match. We also saw Bayley betraying Iyo by throwing her off the ladder. This was followed by a strong reaction from the audience at the O2 arena in London, who booed Bayley for her selfishness.
This moment dictated the very ending of the match. The end of the match came when Bayley and Lynch were fighting each other on the ladder. Iyo saw the moment and Handcuffed the two wrestlers to each other, enabling them to move up. Nobody saw that coming. Iyo then went on to climb the ladder over the wrestlers to win the Money in The Bank contract. The innovative ending added with the fan’s favorite Iyo winning made it an awesome moment to watch in the Money in The Bank pay-per-view.
4. Shayna turns on Ronda Rousey
The match between the team of Racquel and Liv against the team of Shayna and Ronda for the Unified Tag Team Championship was a somewhat okay match. But it was the ending of the match that made it more notable. Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey have been dominating the women’s tag team roster for a few months. They not only won the Women’s Tag Team Championship but they also went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championship and unify both titles.
The recent dominance and win over the titles signified that team of Shayna and Ronda is here to stay and dominate the WWE women’s roster. There was also a unified belief among the fans that Ronda and Shayna are going to win the match and continue to dominate as the Tag Champions. But that was not the case.
During the match itself, Shayna had enough of Ronda’s shenanigans and turned on her in the match. No one saw it coming. Everybody in the arena was shocked to see what was happening before their eyes. Shayna assaulted Rousey and then went on to leave the ring. Fans at O2 stadium loved Shayna’s turn on Ronda and erupted with chants of ‘YES’ and You ‘Deserve it’. Following the assault, Morgan went on to pin Rousey for the win and with that won the Unified Tag Team Championship.
3. Cena returns to London
John Cena is undoubtedly the biggest superstar of WWE. Cena carried the WWE brand on his shoulder from 2005 to 2015. He is the face of the Company. John Cena was last seen on WWE television on Wrestlemania where he fought Austin Theory for the United States Championship Title. He lost the match and since then was never seen on WWE television.
John Cena is currently a big Hollywood celebrity and his busy filming schedule makes it hard for him to make an appearance or wrestle in a match. But there was already a ton of speculation that Cena might appear in the Money in The Bank pay-per-view in London. And to everyone’s surprise, John Cena did return to the loudest ovation from the fans at the O2 Stadium in London. The arena was filled with the ‘Cena’ and ‘U can’t see me’ chants.
John Cena then went on to announce that Wrestlemania is coming to England for the first time in 30 years. This was also a big shocker as no one saw it coming. But WWE is yet to officially confirm it. Cena was then interrupted by Grayson Waller who pitched that Wrestlemania should be hosted by Australia and not England. Following that he attacked Cena. But Cena quickly counters it with an Attitude Adjustment.
2. Drew McIntyre Returns
Drew McIntyre is currently one of the biggest stars on the WWE roster. He was last seen on WWE television on Wrestlemania where he wrestled Sheamus and Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. Drew lost the match and was never seen in the WWE following that night.
There were several rumors of Drew being unhappy with creative. There were even rumors that he might leave WWE for AEW. But all of these rumors rested in the Money in The Bank pay-per-view. Drew McIntyre returned with one of the loudest pops from the London crowd. He interrupted Gunther’s celebration over his victory on Riddle. The Scottish Warrior stood head to head with the Ring General.
Their slight interaction then got converted into a brawl but McIntyre came on top as he hit Gunther with a Claymore to everyone’s pleasure. This was one of the best WWE returns of the year. 1. Roman Reigns gets pinned
The Bloodline storyline dominated WWE television for good 3 years. Reigns throughout the period was unbeaten. He won WWE Championship and Universal Championship during his reign as the Head Of The Table and The Tribal Chief. During this period Roman also main-evented three Wrestlemanias and went on to win all the there Wrestlemania consecutively. He also then went on to hold the titles long enough to be the fifth longest world championship reign in company history.
Roman Reigns was undefeated and unpinned throughout this period. He was invisible. But it all changed in the Main Event of Money in The Bank 2023. After Jey Uso chose Jimmy over Roman, Bloodline finally broke into two parts. The feud between the Bloodline members continued till Money in The Bank where Usos faced the team of Roman and Solo in The Bloodline Civil War match.
The match had its ups and downs. For most of the part Roman and Solo dominated the match. At one point Roman and Solo combined executed their finishers on Jey and stacked both the Jey and Jimmy on each other for the pin. But Usos to everyone’s surprise kicked out. At the end of the match, Roman speared Jey and went for the cover. Jey kicked out and in the process lowblowed Reigns. This was a slight hint towards what happened back in 2021, just the roles got reversed. Jey and Jimmy superkicked Reigns which was followed by the Splash. Jey then went on cover the Reigns.
Reigns to everyone’s surprise got pinned for the first time in 3.5 years. Everyone in the arena was in disbelief. Reigns just not only got defeated by his cousins but was pinned by one of them. This was storytelling at its peak as Jey was also the first person to pin Reigns when Reigns debuted as a member of the Shield.
