The tournament to crown a new World Champion officially went underway on this week’s RAW. Having announced all of the 6 wrestlers who will participate in the tournament from SmackDown, WWE has now revealed a dream match between 3 legendary superstars on the blue brand for the World Heavyweight Championship tournament.
The two Triple Threat matches took place on RAW this week, with fan favorite Seth Rollins emerging as the victor of the series of matches. The second round of the tournament on this week’s SmackDown will determine who Seth Rollins will face at the upcoming PLE for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Recently, WWE announced the participants of each Triple Threat match on SmackDown. One of them will see Edge, Rey Mysterio, and AJ Styles clash for the first time ever in WWE. While the three legends did go up against each other at some point in their careers, it will be the first time this Friday when all three of them face each other for the first time.
The other Triple Threat match features United States Champion Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley, and Sheamus. Whoever wins in these two matches, moves on to the semi-final stage. The winners of the two matches would face each other to determine a winner from SmackDown. That superstar will face Seth Rollins in the finals of the tournament.
It would definitely be a treat for fans to see Edge go up against the two other legends. Although it’s unlikely that WWE would hand him a championship at this point, the match alone is enough for fans.
Seth Rollins heads to the finals of the tournament after defeating Finn Balor on RAW
The Visionary of WWE, Seth Rollins was already a favorite among fans to win the World Heavyweight Championship. And it looks like he is one step closer to his goal after Monday Night RAW.
Rollins was a part of the two Triple Threat matches that took place this week. In the first match, he emerged victorious after hitting Shinsuke Nakamura with the Pedigree. The second match saw Finn Balor stealing the win from Cody Rhodes after an attack from Brock Lesnar and headed to the second stage of the tournament.
In their match later that night, Balor and Rollins shared the ring once again for the opportunity at an inaugural championship. For those unaware, Balor and Rollins fought for the Universal Championship several years ago. That match saw Finn Balor defeat Seth Rollins to become the inaugural Universal Champion. This time, however, things went differently for the Irishman.
After a hard-fought battle, Rollins picked up the victory after putting Balor away with the stomp. He will now face the winner from SmackDown’s tournament in the finals. Whoever wins the match at Night of Champions becomes the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion of WWE. Stay tuned to find out who wins the tournament on SmackDown this Friday.
