In the move that could possibly reshape the landscape of pro wrestling, WWE management is reportedly considering taking its developmental brand i.e. NXT on the road for TV and Live Events again. Yes, there are talks among WWE higher Ups to revive NXT to its old days and put the Brand on the maps.
Triple H as the CEO of NXT has given his blood and sweat to the Brand. He quickly established NXT as a top brand with many known independent talents. It then went on to become a home for many talents such as Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, etc. Due to this, the original concept of NXT being the developmental brand evolved over time, transforming into a full-fledged brand with the support of fans. NXT then started having its own weekend house show and also started touring around the USA as a top Brand.
But in the year 2020, due to the COVID Protocols, all of the WWE shows have to be rescheduled at the Performance Centre in Orlando. This affected NXT as it meant no more house shows. Furthermore, in the following year, Triple H suffered a cardiac arrest. As a result, he was replaced by Shawn Michaels who rebranded the NXT as NXT 2.0.
But the situation has started to change again. WWE RAW and Smackdown are on the road again. Triple H now also holds the majority control of WWE. NXT also returned to their good old days and finally have the right momentum. This has also led to the growth of television ratings of the show. Therefore seeing all these changes, WWE management talked about taking NXT back on the roads outside Florida.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said that there have been some serious talks among WWE higher-ups to take the NXT shows and tapings outside of Orlando. He also added that the shows might run outside Florida. But in considerably smaller venues like NXT did when it toured before the COVID Pandemic.
Is Roman Reigns going to appear in NXT?
Roman Reigns is currently the biggest name in professional wrestling. He is also the most popular wrestler in WWE currently. His involvement in the Bloodline storyline shot his popularity to the sky. So WWE does not want to keep any stone unturned in capitalizing on the popularity of wrestlers to boost TV Ratings. Or to sell their house shows tickets for that matter.
Therefore, it is imminent that we may get to see Roman on the NXT brand very soon. Seeing the current trend WWE higher-ups may definitely be thinking of utilizing Reigns’s popularity to their advantage. There has been a recent trend to call the top star to NXT to boost their ratings. Be it Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley, or Baron Corbin. Therefore, it is expected that Roman might take some time out of his busy schedule to make an appearance at NXT in the coming months.
