This week saw a major turn of events- Trish Stratus betraying Becky Lynch which resulted in new Women’s Champions being crowned.
Lita was originally the other half of the tag team champions along with Becky Lynch. However, the WWE Legend was ambushed backstage by an unknown attacker, leaving Lynch to defend her title with Trish Stratus. There were already rumors of Trish turning on Becky at some point, so fans could see where this was going.
Lita and Becky Lynch were scheduled to defend their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Morgan and Rodriguez this week. However, following the attack, she was unable to compete and taken to a nearby medical facility. Trish Stratus was announced as her substitute for the night. However, the Hall of Famer ended up getting pinned by Liv Morgan and lost the Tag Team Championship.
This is the second tag team title reign for Raquel Rodriguez, who previously won the tag title with Aliyah. But this marks the first time for Liv Morgan for winning the Women’s tag team championship.
After the match, Lynch tried to comfort the WWE Legend, saying that she wasn’t upset with the outcome. However, to the shock of many, Stratus turned on Lynch after laying her out with a barrage of punches. When The Man tried to get up, Stratus put her away with a kick. Her betrayal was rumored for weeks, which would set up Trish Stratus v Becky Lynch for a match at SummerSlam.
Will Trish Stratus face Becky Lynch at SummerSlam?
Trish Stratus returned to WWE in February, when she helped Lita and Becky Lynch win the tag titles from Damage CTRL. She also teamed up with Lita and Lynch at WrestleMania 39 to take on Damage CTRL. However, plans for her to turn on Becky Lynch and Lita surfaced shortly after her return.
It was heavily speculated that Stratus was the mystery attacker of Lita. Given their history, it wouldn’t come off as a surprise that she would betray her best friend to face The Man at SummerSlam. What happens next for the superstars remains to be seen next week on RAW.
