WWE‘s next big event is WrestleMania and if you are a WWE fan then you have a clear-cut idea of how big this tournament is. Now for the past few months, WWE has been busy building a good storyline for such an event.
In this, they introduced Sami Zayn to Roman Reigns and his team The Bloodline. Since Zayn joined them, his popularity goes to the next level, he is now considered among some of the most famous WWE superstars right now.
However, last month Sami Zayn betrayed Roman Reigns and The Bloodline at Royal Rumble after Roman Reigns beat Kevin Owens. Roman asked Zayn to hit Kevin with a steel chair but Zayn instead of hitting KO smacked Roman. This draws a crack not just between Sami Zayn and The Bloodline but within The Bloodline itself as one of the members, Jimmy Uso left the ring.
But this helped Zayn to make space among the fans’ hearts. His popularity came to light when he faced Roman Reigns for Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber. However, the match ended in a defeat for him but he won the crowd.
But how does Zayn’s popularity affect WrestleMania? Well according to Dave Meltzer, Sami Zayn’s fame could affect Cody Rhodes’ momentum for his match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
He said, “The stuff with Cody and Heyman, WWE is very concerned about Sami chants, which is one of the reasons why they got Heyman out there in seconds. They did not want Cody in there by himself because they thought that – it didn’t happen – but they did everything in their power to make sure they kept that moving, they did not allow the audience a chance to start chanting or anything like that, it was just back-and-forth.”
If we think about it, that is a serious issue and could ruin the main event’s taste from WrestleMania.
He further said, “it was designed to give the audience no chance to chant because of the feeling that if they did it would hurt Cody’s momentum. And perhaps it would, and then it could create that groundswell [for Zayn] which is exactly what they don’t want right now,”
But can we see Zayn in the picture, maybe in the future? I guess not, Cody will stick to the story.
