Cody Rhodes is about to make his return to SmackDown after 7 years, the last time he was on that blue rooster was in 2016. The interesting part of the return is that Roman Reigns will first time get face-to-face with Cody Rhodes who is also the challenger for Reigns’ WWE Universal Title.
Cody Rhodes got this opportunity when he made his return to WWE in January at the Royal Rumble match as #30. His return became the best night of his life when he got the opportunity to be a part of WrestlMania’s main event for the WWE Universal Title against Roman Reigns as he was the winner of the Royal Rumble that night.
Now as we all know, Roman wasn’t able to give much of his time to Cody Rhodes as lately, he was dealing with some of his family stuff. At Royal Rumble, Reigns’ team, The Bloodline got destroyed when Sami Zayn decided to betray him by attacking Reigns from behind with a steel chair. Then all of them went for Sami Zayn except Jey Uso who was angry with all that stuff and left the ring right away.
The next night Zayn challenges Roman for his WWE Universal Title at Eliminations Chamber which he eventually lose but earned a lot of recognition and support from the fans. This fame became a bigger concern for WWE officials as this brings down the excitement for WrestleMania’s main event. That is why WWE decided to involve Cody Rhodes in the picture for WrestleMania 39. They did many promos with Rhodes and Roman’s Manager Paul Hayman but never actually with Roman Reigns himself. This is why for the first time both superstars will face each other in the next episode of WWE SmackDown.
In that return, Roman will deal with many things including the departure of Jey Uso which he avoided talking about. In a special council, The Tribal Chief announced via Paul Hayman that either Jimmy will deal with Jay Uso’s situation or him in the upcoming episode of SmackDown.
