The former WWE Champion and New Day member Kofi Kingston revealed on Thursday that he is undergoing surgery after injuring his ankle two weeks ago on SmackDown.
Following the announcement, Kofi recently took to social media to announce that his surgery was a success. In a post on Instagram, he shared a screenshot of him face-timing his New Day members, Xavier Woods and Big E, with Kofi giving them a thumbs up. In the caption of the post, Kofi confirmed that the surgery was a success and that he was on the road to recovery.
“Surgery went very well! Of course, I had to FaceTime the boyzzz upon regaining consciousness…Very little recollection of the conversation, lol,” reads Kingston’s caption. “Thanks to everybody who sent me a message! I appreciate it more than you know! I’m home now. Let the road to recovery begin!”
How Kofi Kingston got injured
Kofi Kingston suffered his injury on SmackDown two weeks ago, in a segment involving LA Knight, Karrion Kross, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus and himself. Kingston was scheduled to appear in a Fatal Five-Way match to determine the No.1 contender to face Gunther at The Showcase Of the Immortals for the Intercontinental Championship. However, prior to the match, a segment involving all five superstars turned into a brawl and Kofi Kingston injured his ankle when he attempted a dive over the top rope to take out his opponents.
Due to the sustained injury and Kofi being unable to compete in the match, he was replaced by his New Day team member, Xavier Woods. The match ended with Sheamus and McIntyre winning by double pinfall. They are now set to face Gunther in a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.
It seems that The New Day won’t be appearing this year on WrestleMania due to Kofi Kingston being out of action, and there is no obvious path to any matching card for Xavier Woods either. New Day has been having some pretty bad luck involving injuries as Big E suffered a nasty neck injury last year and Xavier Woods also missed the last couple of months due to a foot injury. We hope to see Kofi Kingston back in action as soon as possible.
