Former WWE superstar John Morrison said that after the merger of WWE with UFC, there will be a major cut in the budget which will make WWE let go of some of their talents in the coming months. Morrison said this on MMA Hour in an interview with wrestling journalist Ariel Helwani.
As we all know that recently Vince McMahon put his company on sale after stepping down as CEO and chairman of company. Earlier this month, Vince was able to sell WWE to Endeavor for $21 Billion. Endeavor is a parent company of UFC as well which led to the merger of UFC with WWE. Morrison on MMA Hour told that this will lead to a huge cost-cutting and it was estimated that the current CEO of WWE, Nick Khan is expected to save around $50 Million from this.
On MMA Hour, John Mosrrion opened up on the situation and said, “I think there’s a hiring freeze right now. I think they’re going to end up letting a bunch of guys go. I think salaries are going to get cut.”
According to him the situation for the talents and stars at the company will get worse in the coming months and especially for young talents due to salary cutting.
He continued saying, “I’m really glad AEW is around to balance that out a little bit, because if they weren’t, there would be no leverage, and nowhere else to go, and WWE and UFC would be this weird monopoly that just wrings the money out of the livelihood of the fighters and wrestlers and I always think that s*cks,”
If we think of it that way, yes there are a lot of other options for Wrestlers out there like AEW as he mentioned but the situation is tough at WWE and this new deal is making a lot of changes in the company.
Morrison is currently not assigned to any company as of now and the 43-year-old wrestler is planning to retire.
