Last week after defending her IWGP title against Hazuki & AZM at the NJPW pay-per-view of STARDOM, it was heard that her contract with NJPW got expired. Well, that was correct, Mercedes Mone’s contract got expired after the match and it was rumored that she is joining WWE again.
But earlier this morning, Mone released a statement that she is not leaving NJPW and not going back to WWE. She will renew her contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling and will defend her IWGP Women’s Champion’s title next week.
Mercedes Mone or also known as Sasha Banks earlier when she was at WWE told that she is in love with Japan and has no plans of leaving, even so, she is planning to move here permanently. We did an article on this in which we told that Mone is learning Japanese from a language school so that she can live in Japan. As we mentioned about the rumors, Mone’s statement was clear that she will renew her contract and is looking forward to defending her title against Hazuki & AZM again.
She even mentioned that Japan took Women’s wrestling more seriously, not just bra and panties matches that she grew up watching in the States. She said, “I’m not just best in North America, I’m best in the world and I am making this statement in Japan. Women belong in this sport. I grew up watching bra-and-panties matches, but Japan had these hard-hitting, physical, violent women’s matches.”
This a powerful statement for many young girls out there, who wanted to be a part of a change and aspire to be just like her. So, the mindset is clear for The Boss that she is staying and staying to be a part of a better environment, which WWE or many like them failed to provide.
When we look at Mone’s career at NJPW then it turns out to be fantastic. She achieved a lot after leaving WWE. though she was good there as well here she is enjoying the sport. As we all know how she left WWE, here in Japan things are looking different.
