Lanny Poffo aka “Leaping” Lanny Poffo also popularly known by his ring name “The Genius” passes away at the age of 68. The reason for death is still said to be unknown.
This news was conveyed by a long-old friend and WWE Hall of Famer, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan via his social media. The whole WWE and wrestling universe is grieving the sad loss of this superstar. His contribution to the industry is unforgettable and will be remembered forever by the wrestling universe.
WWE also aired a tweet on its official Twitter handle Mourning the Death of the Hall of Famer.
Who was Lanny Poffo?
Lanny Poffo was a Canadian-American professional wrestler and the brother of WWE Legend “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Lanny was a multi-talented personality, he was also known for his contribution to the poetic field and also perceived acting for a small amount of time.
He started his wrestling career in 1974, at that time he played and almost dominated the local wrestling circuits, he got his big break when got signed by the WWE which was at the time known as WWF(World Wrestling Federation) in the year 1985. In his initial career, Lanny was said to be flawless and had a decent amount of victories.
He also got popular for his gimmicks where he used to bring frisbees to the ring and throw them toward the audience, also he used to recite some poems which would mention the opponent he is facing.
How was Lanny Different?
In the 1980s Lanny Poffo changed the dynamics of wrestling, in the era where there used to be heavy power wrestlers Lanny brought aerial attacks and showed his agility in the ring, he used to perform high-flying stunts which used to take opponents by surprise. The announcers at that renamed the super move Senton Bomb as “Leaping backflip” after Lanny’s stage name. However, the power wrestlers still dominated the ring, Lanny managed to find a special place in the heart of the audience and WWE fans.
Later on in his career, Lanny took the role of heel and got reintroduced by the ring of “The Genius”, who played the role of a very arrogant character and used to enter the boxing ring wearing a gown and an academic cap.
He wrestled under the contract of the WWF federation till the year of 1992 and later on got back to the Independent Circuits.
