Just a few weeks before WrestleMania, some WWE superstars are dealing with “physical issues”. A recent report also revealed that Drew McIntyre was also “extremely ill” just ahead of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown.
Drew McIntyre was a part of the Fatal 5-Way match on last week’s SmackDown, to determine the No.1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, McIntyre nearly missed his match at SmackDown, which would have then forced WWE to change the outcome of the match. However, despite his illness, McIntyre went on to compete in the Fatal 5-Way match and win it alongside The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus. McIntyre was cleared to wrestle after he arrived at the arena and was examined by the medical team.
McIntyre apparently has a lot of respect in the locker room for how hard he has worked for the company. According to Johnson:
“McIntyre, who worked all the live events post-Smackdown, has received a lot of respect for how hard he has worked for the company, even when under the weather or working banged up over the last year. He’s very much a locker room leader in that regard.”
What’s next for Drew McIntyre after last week’s match?
McIntyre and Sheamus simultaneously pinned LA Knight and Woods to secure the double pinfall. This caused major confusion as to who was the true winner of the match and who would face Gunther for the IC Championship. The Ring General said that he only signed up for only one contender for the championship shot at WrestleMania, WWE made the decision of McIntyre and Sheamus facing off against each other in a singles bout coming this week, to determine the true contender for Gunther.
Given the history between these two, it will definitely be an exciting match to see. Fans are excited to see the two former tag-team members duke it out once and for all, for an opportunity to win the Intercontinental Championship at The Grandest Stage of them All. Who emerges victorious, remains to be seen.
