There are very few wrestlers in the history of WWE who got naturally over with fans. Be it the likes of Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Rusev, Zack Ryder, etc who naturally got over with the fans with their gimmicks. LA Knight is another such WWE star to join this list. He is currently the most over wrestler on the WWE roster. But did you know that LA Night almost got fired from WWE?
Yes, you heard it right the hottest thing in WWE, of course after Bloodline was close to getting fired from WWE. In his latest interview with Chris Van Vliet, he said that he was pretty sure he was fired. He added that although it never happened officially, some things happened and then he got a Facetime stating, “Hey you know, we want to keep you around. We want to do this, this, that whatever.”
LA Knight at that time was doing a Max Dupree gimmick on television. He was the manager of Mace and Mansoor as part of a new faction called Maximum Male Models. Fans didn’t like the way their favorite was been treated. Fans reverted back to his old character that being LA Knight and showed their love by chanting his catchphrase ‘Yeah’. Max Dupree would eventually bring back his LA Knight persona to the fan’s delight.
LA Knight has all the ability to be a top star. He has good mic skills. He is a good in-ring performer and has a good physique. But Knight lacks in one thing that being his age. He is currently 40. His age is the only obstacle between him and the top of WWE. Most of the WWE wrestlers at this age in fact are in their career’s peak. Thus, WWE management has also considered this and as a result, positioned him as the manager. But his popularity with the fans led WWE to reconsider their decision and bring back the LA Knight persona.
LA Knight on being Impact World Champion
LA Knight has worked over 20 Years in the independent circuit before coming to WWE. He has worked in various independent promotions including Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA), Match One Pro Wrestling, Future Stars of Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling. During his illustrious independent wrestling career, he has won several championships and Gold. He also won Impact World Heavyweight Championship during his time in Impact wrestling i.e. from 2015-2019.
When asked about his views on being Impact World Champions LA Knight had this to say –
” Well that didn’t mean anything because apparently three people were watching the show at that time.“
LA Knight Names His Mount Rushmore of WWE
LA Knight during his Interview with Chris Van Vliet also spoke about his favorite WWE Superstars and Dream Matches he wants to be in. During this, he was also asked about the Mount Rushmore of WWE or Pro Wrestling. To this Knight replied that Everbody always asks that but he does not have really an answer to that. He continued that he guess he could take anybody off by a Mount Rushmore- Hogan, Rock, Austin, Flair.
He said that he did not have to think twice about it. For him, these are the four. He said that his aim has always been and still is to be that guy. And according to him to achieve that he got to wrestle the champion. Therefore he concluded by saying that his dream match for him would be with whoever got the title. That’s for him, His Dream Match.
LA Knight will be seen in the Money in the Bank Ladder match this Saturday in London. He is also the most likely person to win that match. Thus it would be also fun to watch Knight challenge Seth Rollins for Heavyweight Championship.
