The tournament to determine the challengers finally came to an end last night on SmackDown, with AJ Styles emerging victorious and moving on to the final stage of the tournament.
AJ Styles faced off against two WWE Legends, Edge and Rey Mysterio in a dream match in the first qualifiers of the tournament. The three men put on an amazing match which saw some outstanding high-flying action from the Phenomenal One and The Master of 619.
In what was a dream match for many, the three WWE Legends clashed for the first time in their careers. Edge was particularly a favorite to win the match due to him teasing his retirement in the near future. But as it seemed, it was AJ Styes’ time to shine. He secured the win by landing a Phenomenal Forearm on Rey Mysterio.
He advanced to the second round of the tournament, where he would face the winner of the second Triple Threat match between Bobby Lashley, Sheamus and Austin Theory. In this match, the two veterans beat up Theory when he tried to play the classic heel tactic and bide his time. It was a pretty physical match that saw Bobby Lashley pick up the win by pinning Theory. He advanced to the next stage where he would face AJ Styles to determine the challenger for Seth Rollins.
It seemed like a pretty impossible task for AJ Styles to overcome “The All-Mighty” Bobby Lashley. However, the Phenomenal One is known for doing impossible things. The match seemed in Lashley’s favor, but Styles quickly turned the tide in his favor with his barrage of strikes. He picked up the clean victory by hitting Bobby Lashley with the Phenomenal Forearm which was enough to put down The All-Mighty for the three count. Styles therefore advanced to the finals of the tournament. He will face Seth Rollins at Night of Champions on May 27th. And one of the two men are guaranteed to walk out as the new champion of RAW.
Roman Reigns addresses “The Uso” problem
This week Roman Reigns returned on SmackDown and safe to say, he wasn’t very happy with Jimmy and Jey. Ever since losing the tag titles to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, things haven’t been going well for The Usos. Especially when they lost the rematch for the titles on SmackDown.
Roman Reigns addressed that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens weren’t The Bloodline’s only problems. If the Usos losing again and again wasn’t already enough for Reigns, them dedicating their loss to him was a further slap in the face. When Jimmy laughed at this, Reigns raised his hands at him. But before he could retaliate, Jey held him back. He apologized on behalf of himself and his brother. When he asked for another opportunity to try and get the titles back, Paul Heyman revealed that Sami and Kevin were already booked to face Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at Night of Champions.
This came off as a surprise, as fans didn’t expect Reigns to go after the tag titles as well. It looks like The Tribal Chief was finally tired of counting on his cousins to do his bid. This time, he took things upon himself along with his trusted Enforcer.
