A few weeks ago on RAW, Triple H shocked the WWE Universe by bringing back the World Heavyweight Championship back. And recently, he also announced that a tournament will be held to crown a new champion.
Triple H said that this championship would be exclusive to a specific brand, i.e. whichever brand didn’t have the Undisputed WWE Champion, Roman Reigns. Now that Reigns is staying on SmackDown, RAW will need a new champion. That champion will be crowned at Night on Champions on May 27th. And now WWE has revealed the names of the superstars who will be fighting for the World Heavyweight Championship.
In a recent press conference for Backlash, Triple H declared that to determine the new champion, two Triple Threat matches will be held on both SmackDown and RAW following Backlash. And whoever wins in the two matches, goes up against each other later that night. This way, there would be two winners, one from RAW and one from SmackDown. The two superstars would compete in a singles match at Night of Champions to crown the new champion.
Last night, WWE revealed the names of all 12 superstars from RAW and SmackDown who are to participate in the tournament. From RAW, we have Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sheamus, The Miz, and Damian Priest. From SmackDown, we have Edge, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Austin Theory, and Bobby Lashley.
While it has not yet been confirmed who will be in each match, one thing is for sure. One of these 12 men will emerge as the new champion of RAW. Several superstars like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and Finn Balor have shown their interest in chasing after the new championship. As of now, this is all that WWE has revealed about the World Heavyweight Championship.
Who is the current favorite to win the World Heavyweight Champion?
While the champion is yet to be crowned, fans have not wasted any time in picking their favorite to win the inaugural title. And it’s none other than The Visionary Seth Freakin’ Rollins.
The last time he competed in a match to determine an inaugural champion, was way back in 2016 when he faced off against Finn Balor. He ended up losing the match, but it looks like he now has another chance to become the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion. There’s even a slim possibility of Finn Balor and Seth Rollins sharing the ring once again for the title. Stay tuned to find out the winner of the red brand on tonight’s RAW.
