The Royal Rumble match of 2005 was surely one to remember as it saw a controversial ending with Batista and John Cena being the last two superstars present in the match. While the match was slowly coming to an end with both the superstars trying to eliminate each other, it was announced that both the superstars touched the ground together and it was unclear as such who became the winner.
Royal Rumble 2005 also saw Vince McMahon damaging his quads rendering him unable to stand. He ordered to restart the match while sitting on the ring. Ultimately Batista walked out as the winner of the rematch and John Cena lost his golden chance. This enraged a large amount of audience as Cena was a babyface of the company.
With both the superstars touching the floor at the same time, some officials announced Batista as the winner while some announced for Cena. To resolve the matter, WWE owner Vince McMahon himself rushed down to the ring in anger. On his way in, he accidentally damaged his quads and was unable to stand. He improvised and sat down in the ring while giving the orders for a rematch.
Under Vince McMahon’s jurisdiction, the match saw a new beginning. However, this time we had a definite winner: Batista. He later on challenged Undertaker for the gold in WrestleMania 21.
