On the recent episode of Smackdown, Xavier Woods was given an opportunity to win the Intercontinental championship against The Ring General Gunther. Despite delivering a gutsy performance, Woods came up short as he passed out on a sleeper hold and failed to win the Championship.
Xavier Woods put up a valiant effort in contesting for the intercontinental championship against Gunther on the latest edition of WWE SmackDown. However, he came up short and dealt with another failure down the road. Following his loss, Woods was devastated and in grief, as he gave an interview backstage with reporter Kayla Braxton.
Xavier has achieved a lot of success during his run in WWE alongside his tag team members Kofi Kingston and Big E. Woods notably won the King Of The Ring in 2021 as a singles competitor but never got the opportunity to fight for the Intercontinental Championship in a regular match as he got this week against Gunther.
Woods’ last intercontinental championship opportunity came at Battleground 2014 in a battle royal to crown the vacant intercontinental title. He failed to perform up to the mark and The Miz got his hands on the title instead.
During the interview, Woods explained why the opportunity meant so much to him and how devastated he felt after losing that opportunity that knocked on his doors in his 13 years of career. Former King of the Ring stated that this was his shot, he has been here since 2010 and had one shot to become champion which he failed. Remembering Kofi and Big E, Woods stated that it is not always easy to be positive all the time and accepted his failure.
The 12-time Tag Team champion was unsure of his future after his loss and stated that he has no idea what lies ahead for him and expressed his pain for not winning the title. According to Woods, he won’t get another shot very easily as guys like him get these types of opportunities once in their careers and he lost it.
