After having a successful and super entertaining year in 2022, WWE kickstarted the new year with a power-packed Monday Night RAW event on January 2nd, 2023. The first WWE RAW edition of the year featured many great superstars and saw an interesting buildup for the upcoming Royal Rumble.
Let us have a look at the WWE RAW results and the interesting small moments that transpired on the first Monday Night RAW of the year.
Solo Sikoa defeats Elias
Bloodline member Solo Sikoa got into a brawl with Elias after he smashed a guitar at his opponent. Elias sought revenge and challenged Sikoa to a Music City Street Fight. This fight saw all sorts of musical instruments being used to harm each other. Both the fighters exchanged blows with guitars, high hats, and whatnot.
During the fight, American songwriter Hardy came inside the ring to hit The Enforcer with his guitar. He immediately flew from the scene and had done his job of distracting Sikoa from his actual foe who got a clean hit. However, this all went in vain as Solo finished it off by hitting a Spinning Solo on his opponent over a piano to finish it all.
Sami Zayn and the Usos defeat Kevin Owens and The Street Profits
The Bloodline came to the ring to destroy The Street Profits and their pride. The Usos brought Sami Zayn with them whereas the opposition side got themselves backed by Kevin Owens.
It all started pretty strong for The Street Profits. However, the match ended up in Bloodline’s favor as Solo Sikoa intervened and successfully turned the tide. He created enough space for Sami to hit a clean Helluva Kick on Ford to end things.
Dexter Lumis defeats Chad Gable
Chad Gable and Dexter Lumis got into a fight for glory. Chad had control for the entirety of the match, however, it ended in a surprise win for Dexter when he converted Gable’s beautiful pinfall into a counter pindown to win the match.
Becky Lynch bashes Bayley with hurtful words
Becky Lynch interrupted Bayley and ‘his girls’ Dakota Kai and IYO SKY during their presentation. She started firing words at Bayley and called her a ‘coward’ hoping that Bayley would get enticed and would accept her challenge.
On the contrary, Bayley was calm and composed and instead offered a tag team match-up with the current champions. Heated Becky couldn’t wait for a partner and started a two-on-one handicap match with them.
Dakota Kai and IYO SKY defeat Becky Lynch and Mia Yim
Which started as a two-on-one handicap match for Becky Lynch, became a tag team match after Mia Yim interfered to help Becky. After Bayley’s interference, Damage CTRL got the upper hand and successfully converted it into a victory.
Austin Theory defeats Seth “Freakin” Rollins
Seth “Freakin” Rollins was all set to get his hands on the United States Championship title and gave it his all to win the title match against current Champion Austin Theory.
However, Seth suffered a knee injury which cost him the match, and Austin theory capitalized on this injury to hit A Town Down on his opponent and close the matchup on his side.
