In 2022, Vince McMahon retired as the chairman, and ever since Triple H had taken over. But it seems Mr. McMahon might be back for good after all.
In January, sources close to WWE reported that Vince McMahon came back to the company after retiring in 2022. The 77-year-old came back to increase the sales of the company and did not interfere in the creative decisions, which were under Triple H. However, that all seemed to change as evident from the RAW after WrestleMania.
According to Dave Meltzer, Vince is back in WWE, and things will be the same as before. This apparently created low morale around the workplace as several superstars were not happy with things going back to how they were before Triple H took over. On this week’s RAW, changes were made 15 minutes before the show, while some changes were made even after the show aired.
PW Insider recently confirmed the fact that orders to rewrite the show came about 15-20 minutes before the show aired, directly from Vince McMahon. Vince was apparently “directly overseeing” the show.
It is common knowledge that Vince McMahon always put himself in charge of the creative aspects of the business and personally oversees everything. After his “retirement” in 2022, people assumed that WWE would change for the better under Triple H. But it seems like we are back to square one, as Vince is now seemingly going to be heavily involved with the creative aspects of the shows.
Why did Vince McMahon return to WWE?
Although there could be many possible reasons behind his return, the one that makes the most sense is the recent purchase of WWE by Endeavor. WWE will now merge with UFC as one large publicly traded company.
Endeavor’s CEO, Ari Emanuel revealed that he insisted that Vince McMahon return to the company. In an interview, he said:
“I would have bodyslammed him if he thought he thought he was going to leave,” Emanuel said. “Here’s a man who has seen around the corner at every beat over the last 40 years of this business and has a vision of this business way before a lot of people see it. Him now being able to utilize what we’ve built in our flywheel, I’m the luckiest guy in the world. I have Vince McMahon, a visionary that sees around the corner, I have Dana White and what we’ve built. That’s pretty unstoppable.”
With Vince McMahon now back in WWE, what other creative changes will we get to see? Stay tuned to find out.
