WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels opens up about why he never faced The Rock in his legendary WWE career.
In a recent interview, the Heartbreak Kid talks about why they never fought even once in their careers. Both the WWE superstars had an extremely successful careers but never battled each other, despite several discussions on their potential matchup. Every fan in the WWE Universe wanted it, but The Rock went to Hollywood and Michaels hung up his boots.
Shawn Michaels spoke exclusively to Sportsmail’s Alex McCarthy and opened up about his relationship with Dwayne and why their dream match never happened.
“Everyone knows the story of me being difficult, having a huge change of heart, and coming back in 2002”, Shawn Michaels said. According to him, he was always open to the idea of having a match. However, it didn’t work out as planned. The Rock became a busy man as he joined Hollywood. He became famous and his priorities changed. Before he returned, Michaels had already hung up his boots for good in 2010.
Rock Johnson left WWE in 2004 in order to pursue an acting career in Hollywood, and since then, had a long and successful career, appearing in franchises such as Fast & Furious, Jumanji, DC’s Black Adam, The Mummy, etc.
He hasn’t been on WWE much, except for rivalries with CM Punk and John Cena. He is still rumored to appear and fight his cousin, Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
Michaels said that he respects his fellow wrestler’s decision to pursue other ventures and the two of them had met recently at the Hall Of Fame and had the chance to make peace and clear the air as to why their match never happened.
On a side note, Dwayne Johnson’s daughter, Simone Johnson is currently working in WWE under the NXT brand, with the name Ava Raine. Shawn oversees the creative aspects of NXT and helps improve the talent. He praised Raine and admitted that he can help her improve. He thought of it as a way to pay his fellow mate back for never having a match together.
