The rivalry between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns always makes up for an amazing storyline and matches. The two have been feuding ever since Rollins betrayed The Shield about 9 years ago.
Although the two superstars have faced each other numerous times in WWE, their matches never get boring to watch. Both of them have squared off against each other for about 30 matches since 2015, with one wrestler having more wins than the other. Although Roman holds more wins over Rollins in singles matches, Rollins has never once lost to Reigns in a pay-per-view. After their match at Royal Rumble 2022, where Reigns was disqualified after a count-out, the duo might just face each other one more time at WrestleMania 40.
The history between The Tribal Chief and The Drip God started all the way back in 2012, when they debuted as a part of a faction called The Shield, alongside Dean Ambrose. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns went on to win the Tag Team Championships as well. However, all that came crashing down when Rollins turned on his Shield brothers to join the Evolution. Since then, Reigns has constantly feuded with Rollins over the years.
After Roman Reigns turned heel and became The Tribal Chief, he has faced Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble 2022 in a title match. However, that match ended with Reigns getting disqualified after holding Rollins in a submission move and refusing to let go even after the 5-count when Rollins touched the rope. The Visionary never got his rematch with Reigns however, due to ongoing feuds with Austin Theory and Cody Rhodes. So the question is, will we ever see them face each other again?
During an interview with ESPN, both Roman and Seth named each other as their potential opponents.
“There’s a few of them out there, man. I mean, realistically, Roman Reigns is someone that I have only wrestled on pay per view and singles matches twice. Yeah, and you look at a lot of the other, say long term rivalries, you know, Rock [and] Austin, they did three mania matches themselves, three of them, two of the main events I think. You look at Cena and Orton and they had a million,” Seth Rollins said.
“I think Seth is a good answer. We have a lot of open-ended history. I think there’s a lot of competitive brotherhood there. There is an estranged love due to our past history. There’s always been – and this is just Seth – an underlying friction to where we can easily butt heads,” said Roman Reigns.
Who would be a better challenge for Roman Reigns- Cody Rhodes or Seth Rollins?
After Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania and got betrayed by Brock Lesnar the following night on RAW, things have been looking pretty bleak for The American Nightmare.
Ever since Brock brutalized Cody on RAW, fans have been wondering whether it was to set up a match between him and Cody at Backlash. With the way things are going, Cody might be getting back to the title picture after all.
If WWE is planning to give another title shot to Cody, he should start from the bottom again. If he decides to face Lesnar, The American Nightmare should suffer a close loss. Him giving it all in the match, but ultimately getting beaten bloody by Lesnar would endear him to fans more. Next, Cody should have a rematch against Seth Rollins, where The Visionary gets his win against Cody. This would serve two purposes- first to have Cody bounce back from his losses eventually and starting on a “redemption” journey. Secondly, the story of Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins would further progress.
What WWE holds in store for The American Nightmare and Seth Rollins, is still to be seen.
