Last week, WWE NXT Women’s Champion, Roxanne Perez‘s health caused major concern among fans as she collapsed, following a title defense at the Roadblock event.
A recent update from WWE’s Twitter account provided some relief among the WWE Universe, where it confirmed that Roxanne was discharged from the hospital and is currently resting at her home.
What really happened to Roxanne Perez?
On the 7th March edition of the event Roadblock, WWE NXT Champion Roxanne Perez defended her title against Meiko Satomura. After a hard-fought battle, Roxanne retained her title, but her victory celebration was cut short as she collapsed in the ring. Satomura, WWE officials, Shawn Michaels and Booker T rushed to check on her. Later, she was carried out of the arena on a stretcher and taken to a medical facility.
WWE NXT later provided an update on Twitter, in which they mentioned that Roxanne will be kept overnight in the hospital for observation and testing.
On the March 14th edition of NXT, Roxanne’s doctor made an appearance and provided a positive update regarding her health. He explained that in her situation, they checked potential areas- the heart, the head, and the vessels in her body. Fortunately, all her bloodwork came back reassuring. She was not identified to be dangerously dehydrated, her initial CT scans showed no abnormalities in her brain and moreover, her EKG showed no heart arrhythmia.
Not much is known about what really known about what happened to Roxanne. Both she and Satomura received heavy blows to the head, which might have been the cause of her collapse.
The WWE Universe breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the positive update on Roxanne. Her doctor ruling out severe heart and brain conditions is definitely good news. However, the doctor provided further information, saying that not even their team of doctors could figure out the issue with Roxanne, and the situation is still ongoing.
It’s never a good thing when even a team of doctors can’t pinpoint the cause of an athlete losing consciousness before or after physical activity. Worst case scenario, whatever the cause of her collapsing was, could threaten her whole professional wrestling career. Whatever the case, we continue wishing the best for Roxanne and hope to see the NXT Women’s Champ return to action soon.
Roxanne Perez took to Twitter to thank her fans and everyone who was concerned about her health. Check out the Tweets below:
Following her collapse, Roxanne would have to vacate her title, as Shawn Michaels explained, with NXT Stand & Deliver less than 2 weeks away, a new champion would have to be crowned.
