Vince McMahon and multiple other executives at WWE allegedly fired Britney Abrahams, a former WWE writer. This was done for resisting the use of offensive racial stereotypes in storylines involving black wrestlers and more. She made sure that it doesn’t go unnoticed and filed a lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon.
A lawsuit has been filed by Britney Abrahams targeting Vince Mcmahon and the WWE. Her accusations state that the company decided to fire her because she objected to the inclusion of potentially damaging stereotypes. They were to be used in the storylines to highlight character traits of black wrestlers such as Bianca Belair and Apollo Crews.
Abrahams states that Bianca was asked to deliver a line that quoted, “Uh-Uh! Don’t make me take off my earrings and beat your ass!”
Abrahams complained about racism and got racist messages from Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and other writers. They suggested that a Black male wrestler should wear women’s clothes. However, the idea got scrapped after a white writer suggested that this could lead to harmful stereotypes that will attack viewer’s sentiments.
The former writer also went on to state how Apollo Crews used his stereotypical and exaggerated Nigerian accent. She says that was not at all a necessity for the show to grow or be interesting.
Another horrific story pitch stated by the writer is a storyline involving a Muslim wrestler. The script suggested that he was asked to say that he was a part of the 9/11 attacks.
Abrahams stated that she got fired after opposing “racist, sexist pitches” all around the floor. She is seeking “reinstatement, damages, declaratory judgment, and an injunction restraining defendants from engaging in such unlawful conduct.”
VINCE MCMAHON’S CONTROVERSIAL PAST
McMahon faced sexual assault and hush money allegations and left the WWE board in mid-2022 after nearly four decades in charge. However, he returned to the helm in January by using his majority voting control over the company to name himself chairman again.
The unexpected decision made by McMahon met with a number of lawsuits from shareholders who were challenging changes to the law that would have taken away the WWE board’s power. McMahon later changed his mind, dropping down several cases. However, there are still ongoing court cases related to claims of assault and hush money.
