WWE Legend and Hall Of Famer Bill Goldberg is reportedly “angry” with Vince McMahon after not receiving a proper retirement match.
Goldberg returned to action in 2016, after staying retired for nearly 12 years. He was immediately booked to face Brock Lesnar. He even held the WWE Universal Championship twice. Goldberg served as a part-timer after his return, wrestling only at occasional Premium Live Events. His last match in WWE was in Elimination Chamber 2022, where he lost to Roman Reigns.
The match between Roman Reigns and Goldberg was supposed to happen 3 years ago at WrestleMania 36. However, those plans were scrapped after Reigns pulled out amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two megastars finally got to clash at last year’s Elimination Chamber, where the Tribal Chief successfully retained his Universal Championship against Big Bad Bill. This match also served as the Hall of Famer’s last match in WWE after his contract expired. Now it seems that Big Bad Bill is pretty upset with WWE for not granting him a retirement match.
Speaking with 93.7 The Ticket’s Adam Carriker, Goldberg said:
“Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that after the Roman Reigns match that I would have a proper retirement match. And that hasn’t come to fruition through them and therefore…nobody puts a stamp on my career. Nobody tells me when I’m done. Period. End of story.“
The Hall of Famer thinks that WWE owes him a retirement match, to finally put his career to rest. If WWE isn’t interested, Goldberg said that he will put together a retirement match of his own in Israel.
Goldberg’s illustrious WWE career
Although staying retired for the most part, Goldberg had a pretty amazing career. He had the reputation for being one of the most dominant wrestlers ever, having a long undefeated streak.
Despite having a short run in WWE from 2003-2004, he made his mark in the company. His last match before leaving in 2004 was against Brock Lesnar. After returning to the company in 2016, the two picked up right where they left off, beginning a rivalry that saw a series of legendary matches between the two behemoths.
