On the March 20th edition of Monday Night Raw, The Rated-R Superstar, Edge called out “The Demon” persona of Finn Balor to fight him at WrestleMania.
The feud between Edge and Finn Balor has been going on for quite some time. Last time, Balor and The Rated-R superstar battled in an “I Quit” match. It was quite a brilliant match, except for the end where Judgement Day interfered and forced the Hall of Famer to quit. This time, however, things might go a bit differently as Edge looks to end their rivalry once and for all in a Hell In a Cell match.
The segment began with Edge in a dark room. He goes on to explain why he “feels at home” inside Hell In a Cell. He explains that he has been “baptized inside the cell by The Deadman himself”. According to the Ultimate Opportunist, the cell has become his friend, his partner, and “his cathedral of pain”. He tells Balor that “you cannot become what you need to become by remaining what you are”.
Edge further stressed that he and Balor were the only people who understood that. That he could grasp what Balor meant when he said that Hell couldn’t handle his demons. Therefore, he issued a challenge to Balor. He said:
“So leave Finn at home, bring your demon to meet the devil. He’d like to meet him.”
The segment concluded with Edge breaking into a burst of sadistic laughter. We were left wondering what did Edge exactly mean by “the devil would like to meet him”. Could it be that he is bringing back his “Brood” persona to end Balor once and for all?
“Brood” was an Attitude Era gimmick that the Rated-R superstar used in his match against The Miz at the premium live event last year. He also used it when he attacked The Judgement Day at SummerSlam 2022, for betraying him.
Will “The Demon” accept his challenge?
Balor hasn’t used his “The Demon” gimmick ever since he lost to Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules in September 2021. This was the first time The Demon Balor ever lost.
This would be a “now or never” opportunity for Balor to bring back his dark alter-ego as this might be Edge’s last match at The Grandest Stage of Them All. Edge had given strong implications that he plans to retire at some point this year.
Therefore, this would be a golden time for both of the rivals to bring out their dark personas and end their rivalry once and for all. In the event of that match happening, it would just be a question of who would emerge victorious- The Demon or The Devil?
