Novak Djokovic recently announced that he has chosen to withdraw his name from the Toronto Open. Djokovic’s withdrawal from the Masters 1000 raised many questions among the fans and pundits. So, let’s have insights into the reasons for Djokovic’s withdrawal.
Novak Djokovic was born on May 22, 1987, and has an immaculate career in tennis sport. The Serbian has gained many titles and is the former world No.1 in ATP, currently ranking No.2 behind Carlos Alcaraz. Novak has been the world No.1 for more than 380 weeks combined. He has a record for winning 23 Grand Slam titles in the singles discipline, including his 10 Australian Open. Novak has 23 major titles, 38 master titles, and 6 year-end championships.
The Serbian star and the 2023 Wimbledon runner-up Novak Djokovic declared his decision to withdraw from the Toronto Open in an earnest statement given to the media. His decision has upset the organizers and a lot of fans as well.
“I have always enjoyed my time in Canada, but after speaking with my team, we believe this is the right decision to take. I would like to thank Karl Hale, the Tournament Director, for understanding this decision. Hope I can return to Canada and Toronto in the coming years to play in front of great fans there.” Said Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic is one of the “BIG THREE” in men’s tennis, sharing the room with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Novak’s absence in the Master’s 1000 will impact the dynamics of the tournament. But it is a Golden opportunity for other players to shine who are often shadowed by his presence.
Jimmy Connors says Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal cannot be considered GOAT
While Jimmy Connors was discussing the recently conducted 2023 Wimbledon championship with his son in the “Advantage Connors” podcast, he said something which made people confused.
He said, “It comes to a point where a lot of people think he’s had enough. To me that’s bulls**t. Look at all the people that were on the Federer bandwagon and the Nadal bandwagon as the greatest of all time.” Also Emphasizing his point he says, “They’re not even the greatest of all time in their era.”
He also talks about the rise of Novak Djokovic in Tennis and says that instead of thinking that this is it for the Serb, let’s encourage him to go out there and play even more elegantly.
He wants to see Novak Djokovic play for a little while longer and asks people to not compare him to King Roger or Rafa.
