Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has slammed a Brazilian television broadcaster for making a joke about fellow Villa player Alisha Lehmann’s bum.
Milton Neves, a 71-year-old broadcaster, posted video footage of Lehmann, 23, jumping in the air, turning her back, and pointing at her name after scoring in Villa’s 4-3 Women’s Super League win over Manchester City earlier this month.
The videotape concludes with a guy objectifying Lehmann by asking, “Without rewinding the film, what number was on her shirt?” Neves tweeted the video with the caption, “Watch and comment.”
Douglas Luiz has slammed a reporter for ‘disrespecting’ his Aston Villa teammate Alisha Lehmann.
Luiz, 24, is dating Lehmann, 23, another Villa player.
And he sprang to his partner’s defence after a rude social media post.
Milton Neves, a 71-year-old Brazilian TV personality, uploaded a video of Lehmann leaping and turning her back after scoring a goal.
Neves has over 2.2 million Twitter followers and has previously made provocative statements. Luiz, 24, is in a relationship with Lehmann and was clearly enraged by the message. The Brazilian international called the presenter “disrespectful.”
Luiz continued: “You’re elderly, you’ve played soccer for a long time, and you release a video that disrespects women’s soccer or the athlete herself, who is also my girlfriend. That’s nonsense, you haven’t learnt what respect is.”
Lehmann has yet to respond to Neves, but she has retweeted Luiz’s response.
“Without returning to the video, what number was on her shirt?” read the message that accompanied the film.
Neves’ message did not sit well with Luiz, who criticised his fellow countryman’s social media post.
“You are old, (with) years in football, and publish a video that doesn’t respect women’s football or the player who, in this instance, is my girlfriend,” the Brazilian midfielder tweeted.
“You never learned what respect is! Damn!”
The tweet to which he responded has subsequently been removed.
Luiz and Lehmann have been dating since November.
They revealed their connection after she posted an Instagram photo of them together.
Lehmann, who joined Villa from West Ham United last summer, is also a Switzerland international.
Luiz has appeared in seven games for Villa in all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
He has a year left on his contract and was linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
Luiz left Manchester City in the summer of 2019 after failing to play for the Premier League winners. He then transferred to Villa. He has nine senior Brazil caps and Arsenal attempted to sign him on the last day of the transfer window, but their offer was turned down.
Lehmann, a 34-cap international for Switzerland, signed with Villa in the summer of 2021. The attacker began her career with BSC YB Frauen, the sister team of Swiss powerhouse Young Boys, and has since played for West Ham and Everton in the WSL.
With only seven points thus far in the Premier League, Villa has had a difficult season. In their most recent game, they overcame Southampton 1-0 to gain only their second victory of the season and lessen the strain on manager Steven Gerrard.
