During Brazil’s 5-1 friendly triumph over Tunisia in Paris, a banana was thrown towards Richarlison.
It came after Brazil began the game by approaching the field without stars on their shirts, an anti-racism gesture meant to recognise the contribution black players have made to the country’s significant footballing accomplishments.
Richarlison was one of the goal scorers in Paris, along with Raphinha scoring a brace, Neymar, and Pedro. Brazil has already qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after going unbeaten in their CONMEBOL qualification group.
They put on another spectacular football performance, danced as usual, and did not provide the viewers with a satisfying answer.
Fans Reaction on Brazil’s win against Tunisia
One fan said, “This has been said at EVERY single World Cup & yet of the 21 tournaments Brazil have only won 5 times & only twice in the past 52 years. Even the greatest team of Socrates in 1982 were beaten by Paulo Rossi… Brazil won’t win, a European team will; possibly Belgium or maybe England”.
Another tweeted, “ESPN FC forgets that Brazil doesn’t have a real finisher. Having many strikers doesn’t mean they score the goals. Most of them are mostly ball players”.
A third added, “It’s wraped, Brasil is already World Champion, on the 18 of december the greastest footballing nation of all time will get their crown back, mark my words“.
Match Report
Raphinha scored the game’s first goal in the 11th minute with a stunning header from the edge of the box that beat goalie Aymen Dahmen. Tunisia, on the other hand, equalised seven minutes later with an opportune header from a free kick by Montassar Talbi.
A minute later, Raphinha found Richarlison ghosting behind the defence and the striker struck a low shot between the keeper’s legs to put Brazil back in ahead.
During the goal celebrations, a banana was thrown from the seats towards the Samba players, who have been outspoken about racism after Vinicius Junior was racially assaulted by Atletico Madrid supporters before their derby against Real Madrid earlier this month.
They increased their advantage in the 29th minute with a Neymar penalty after Aissa Laidouni held Casemiro back. Raphinha scored his second goal in the 40th minute with a perfect low effort from the edge of the box following a fast counter-attack.
Two minutes later, Tunisia defender Dylan Bronn was sent off for a tackle on Neymar. Brazil eased off in the second half, with manager Tite bringing on multiple substitutions.
Flamengo striker Pedro, the greatest revelation in the Brazilian league this season, came in in the 74th minute and scored the fifth goal with a spectacular first-time effort from the edge of the box.
