The Bayern Munich attacker Sadio Mane was pulled off hurt after only 20 minutes in Die Roten’s 6-1 win against Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening, with head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirming a tibia problem.
According to GOAL, Mane conducted tests this morning, which resulted in an initial recuperation time of 3-4 weeks. The Senegal international will be subjected to more tests to determine his recuperation time and if he will be able to compete in the World Cup. While it is not yet definite, he will most likely miss the competition.
Fans Reaction on Sadio Mane’s injury
Following this revelation, some supporters turned to Twitter to vent their disappointment, as well as to criticise FIFA for holding the World Cup in the middle of the league season.
One fan said, “Senegal should be replaced with another team then because they are just going to do nothing without him”.
Another tweeted, “South American and European players have been feigning injuries and sickness. Sadio Mane who is Africa’s talisman still choses to play in this useless match. I’m so pissed off bro”.
A third said, “When you put a World Cup in the middle of the European season and it’s 2 matches a week from august and 1 week break until the World Cup then it’s inevitable”.
Bayern have released an official statement confirming that Mane will be unavailable for the Bundesliga clash with Schalke this weekend.
They said, “Sadio Mane suffered an injury to his right fibula during FC Bayern’s 6:1 win against Werder Bremen. ‘Africa’s Footballer of the Year’ is out for the match against FC Schalke this Saturday,” the statement reads.
”Further examinations will follow in the next few days, FC Bayern will exchange information with the medical side of the Senegalese Football Association”. When questioned about Mane after the Bremen game, Nagelsmann was instantly worried, worrying that the injury may splinter.
His assistant Dino Toppmoeller, on the other hand, was able to provide a more optimistic update, saying, “Sadio Mane was hit on the leg, which gave him a little nerve discomfort.” Nothing too serious, and his World Cup participation should not be jeopardised”.
