English footballer Harry Maguire posted an apology on Instagram after his mistakes caused Gareth Southgate‘s side to a draw against Die Mannschaft on Monday. The Manchester United centre-back was caught offside by Hansi Flick’s side a couple of times.
Southgate and co. showed faith in Harry Maguire and they came him the chance to start the final two games of the English side before the 2022 Qatar World Cup, including last week’s loss to Italy.
The former Leicester City defender found himself on the bench at Old Trafford after Manchester United’s dismal start to the new season. In UEFA Nations League, he got to regain his form playing in the starting 11 but, nothing actually worked.
Monday was a tough night for the centre-back as he faced former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick’s German side. Die Mannschaft is also not going through the worst phase but at least they are not going to get relegated.
After already losing possession a number of times, Harry Maguire conceded a penalty with a clumsy challenge on Jamal Musiala before being robbed of possession as Kai Havertz doubled the lead for the visitors.
What does Harry Maguire really say?
All the things happened in the last half hour of the game. And Maguire took to Instagram to say sorry for those errors.
He wrote: “Mistakes are part of the game, I apologise. Great fight back and spirit to get us back into the game by the lads. Take the positives and look forward to Qatar. The tough times will make us stronger.”
On a good managerial note, England boss Gareth Southgate also refused to criticize his team’s man.
He told talkSPORT: “There were so many important moments in the game he produced and I think it would be harsh to criticise him for the second when he’s dribbling 80 yards from our goal.”
Losing to Italy assured England’s demotion in the Nations League as well as in the forthcoming 2024 Euros. But Southgate and co should find something to end the scarcity of strikes.
