Being so close to the end of the calendar adds external pressure on the players to increase their ratings for the ATP Finals. Here is a quick rundown of the quarter-final matchups between the Top 8 of the tournament.
Holger Rune vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Holger Rune who has been on the rise in the ATP rankings in 2023 and reached his career-high ranking of 4 in August this year will be up against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the quarterfinals of the Swiss Basel Indoors. It will be Rune’s 9th quarterfinal of the 2023 season. It will be his first quarterfinal under the tutelage of Boris Becker. He hired Becker as his coach earlier this month. He will look to continue his phenomenal form this season and keep his hope alive for the ATP Finals next month.
Etcheverry, having made his ATP debut in 2021 at the Delray Beach Open is a little less experienced as compared to Holger Rune. But his 2023 run is what he should be proud of. He reached the quarterfinals of the French Open defeating Alex De Minaur, Borna Coric, and Nishioka in the preceding matches.
