It didn’t take long for Real Madrid to rekindle their winning ways. Madrid defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in the Champions League three days after its perfect start to the season ended with a draw in the Spanish league.
Rodrygo and Vincius Junior each scored in the first half as the reigning champions strolled to their third straight European triumph. Madrid now leads Shakhtar by five points after the result at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Fans Reaction to Madrid’s unbeaten run in UCL
One fan said, “Peep Madrid’s opponents man. This PR is a joke. Madrid will be out of the competition by now if they were sitting in Barcelona’s group”.
Another said, “Real Madrid is in the easiest group, Atletico is overrated tbh, Sevilla is poo poo this year and Barcelona is in the hardest group and got cheated by the referees in back-to-back games”.
A third said, “Obviously they will not be anywhere other than 1st when they play in such a kiddish group”.
Real Madrid’s performance in UCL
It was Madrid’s sixth consecutive Champions League group-stage victory. During that stretch, it outscored its opponents 19-2. After nine straight triumphs in all competitions, Madrid’s 1-1 home draw against Osasuna on Sunday was its first defeat of the season.
The hosts dominated from the outset on Wednesday, finishing with 35 efforts, 13 of which were on target.
The ball refused to go in. It was a match to win 7-1, but it happens occasionally, according to Real Madrid player Toni Kroos. It’s hard to believe it was just 2-1, but we gained the three points we needed in the end.
Rodrygo scored the goal in the 13th minute with a low drive from just beyond the box. With a wonderful ball into the heart of the box, the Brazilian then set up Vincius’ 28th-minute goal.
Madrid kept squandering opportunity after chance until Shakhtar got one closer in the 39th minute with a shot from close to the penalty spot by Oleksandr Zubkov. After the goal, the visitors attacked and almost equalised on a one-on-one opportunity squandered by Mykhailo Mudryk early in the second half.
