Mark Henry last night revealed his real reason for leaving WWE for Tony Khan’s newly-born AEW. Speaking to Wrestling Inc., Henry told the reason why he joined it shortly after the pay-per-view of Double or Nothing in 2021.
After joining AEW, Hall of Famer of WWE, Mark Henry became a talent scout and coach there. He brings new talents from all around the world on board and trains them to compete with some of the best wrestlers on the planet.
Apart from being a talent scout and a coach, Mark Henry also showcases his talent as a commentator and an interviewer. He conducts interviews for AEW’s Rampage event on weekly basis.
That’s all for AEW, but for WWE Henry was the MVP. He was among some of the best faces in WWE at that time of his prime. He won countless tournaments and became champions in like almost every category.
He was the two-time World Champion, one-time WWF (Now WWE) European Champion, ECW Champion in 2008, and The World Heavyweight Champion in 2011. He was an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame also. But why he left WWE achieving so much here? To that question, World’s Strongest Man gave his answer to Wrestling INC.
He said, “I never went back and forth. I left (WWE) after I retired. I wanted to be more on the executive side, they wouldn’t hire me on the executive side. I didn’t have enough experience, the technical education, and going to AEW proved that I knew what I was doing. I was helping other people at WWE with their jobs. People were like, ‘Hey, man, can you help me with this?’ I was always helping. When it came to scouting, I could see something and go, ‘That’s not right. Fix that, fix that,’ and then it was good,”
So basically Henry wanted to be more than a wrestler. After helping others, he realized he can be a good help at the executive side of the company as well but WWE refused to hire him after his announcement of retiring in 2018 as he lack the technical experience. Whereas AEW who just came into the light looking for big names hired him and now it is good to go for everyone.
