With a mere 100 days remaining to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the stage is all set for the 32 teams to fight it out for the glory of their nation. All the players are ready to give it their all for the sake of their country’s pride.
The beautiful nation of Qatar will serve as a battlefield for this purpose. Starting from 21st November this year, we will witness the greatest event of the annual year 2022. This 22nd edition of the World Cup will see many great players with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi fighting for glory.
The previous versions of the tournament have produced many great players along the way. The organizing body FIFA gives an award to their top goalscorer after the end of every tournament. And from the very start of the tournament in 1930, every edition has seen a new face as the victor of this award.
However, many big names like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have never been able to get their hands on this prestigious award. From Muller to Harry Kane, let us take a look at the list of FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winners.
List of winners
England’s Harry Kane is the current holder of the award. He scored a total of 6 goals in the whole tournament of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, this feat went in vain as his team was defeated in the semi-finals and even lost the third place match to Belgium.
2006 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner is also crowned as the leading top scorer of all time. He has 16 goals in his World Cup career where he played 24 matches in 4 editions of the Tournament.
Just Fontaine won the award in the 1958 FIFA World Cup. He went on a spree after scoring back-to-back goals in the tournament. He scored a total of 13 goals in that World Cup and has the highest number of goals in a single FIFA World Cup.
The first ever tie for the title came in the 1962 FIFA World Cup when there were not one, not two but a total of 6 players who were tied in for the leading goalscorer position after the tournament ended. All six players scored exactly 4 goals in the entire tournament.
