I guess we all remember the 2010 World Cup, I mean for me it was the best World Cup, the vibe, the music, the country, everything was perfect. But it’s not just these that make that World Cup so amazing, but also the dramas that happened in that World Cup.
One of the most famous was that handball by Luis Suarez in the 2010 World Cup. The match was against Ghana in the Quarter Finals, both teams were 1-1, and Ghana’s striker Dominic Adiyah tries to score a winner with a header but it was prevented not by Uruguay’s Goalkeeper nor by the defenders but by Luis Suarez himself with his hands in the penalty area.
Many football fans were so raged because of his offense. Though Suarez was sent off the pitch with a red card and Ghana was awarded a penalty. Ghana’s player Gyan took the chance to score a last-minute penalty and put his country in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup but unfortunately, his penalty struck the crossbar.
What did Luis Suarez say about his hand-ball controversy?
After this, Luis Suarez was seen celebrating that penalty miss like crazy. Later the match goes to a penalty shootout where Ghana didn’t give that much and ultimately Uruguay won that match.
So, that foul from Luis Suarez makes the football world very angry. This action of his has been under debate since day one, some support him, some do not but Suarez didn’t think he did anything wrong. Recently he told ESPN, “I didn’t miss the penalty. It’s not my fault”.
So, for him his doing was right and he did what is best for his nation. Well, we are not going to give our opinion on that, it’s all up to you guys, what Suarez did was right or it’s cheating?
Uruguay vs Ghana in World Cup 2022
So, after 12 years, these two teams are going to clash once again. As we have already explained the controversy, this time Ghana has a chance to settle the battle after this long period of time.
Ghana player Andre Ayew said, “I’m the only one left in the squad from when that happened. Everyone knows how we felt. Everyone felt bad but, for me, I just want to get to the next stage at this World Cup”.
“It’s not about revenge. Whether it was, or not, we’ll go with the same determination and same desire to win because we want to reach the next stage. I don’t think Ghana has forgiven Luis Suarez. But for me, it’s football. He took a decision. There’s nothing to speak about.”
So, the match between them is on Friday, both teams need to win the match to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup.
