England defender and former Manchester United Captain Harry Maguire have always been a hot target for criticism. It does not actually matter whether the defender is playing for the English Sqaud or the Red Devils.
When new manager Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford, he named Harry Maguire the captain of his side as he was already the existing captain. But United’s two initial losses in the current campaign of the Premier League resulted in a huge shuffle in the playing 11.
And the shuffle landed Harry Maguire and star Striker Cristiano Ronaldo out of the playing sqaud. Lisandro Martinez and Raphaël Varane became the first choices of the Dutch manager while the English International got way out of the starting lineup picture.
If we talk about Harry Maguire’s career at Manchester United, he has suffered severe criticism from Old Trafford fans and pundits. Several times, he was actually named as the cause of their defeat and shortcomings. However, his price tag will always remain to be a huge burden on his head.
Playing under Gareth Southgate, Maguire again got named as the man of despire. England’s current form is not something that they would have been proud of. They have failed to record a single win in their last 6 matches.
Although it’s not totally the mistake of the fans, the player has also shown a decline in his own performance over the years. Against Die Mannschaft, Maguire lost possession a number of times. He passed the play to Jamal Musiala in his very own box which resulted in a goal.
What does Rio Ferdinand really say about Harry Maguire?
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has opened up about his thoughts on Manchester United Defender Harry Maguire.
“I feel for Harry, every mistake is being punished and scrutinised,” wrote Ferdinand on Twitter after Maguire conceded the penalty. “It comes with the territory though.”
“He needs to be strong mentally to get through this! Playing with no games at this level always leaves you open.”
Not only Harry Maguire was the culprit, but Nick Pope who has got a place in the starting XI because of Jordan Pickford getting Injured also gave a super lethargic effort while saving Kai Havertz’s late equalizer.
“It is an error and of course, he’s going to be down but the team has to be together and we have done that all week,” said Southgate when asked about his goalkeeper’s mistake.
