Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho produced an incredible performance against Manchester United in UEFA Europa League. Uzoho made 11 exceptional saves for his side Omonia Nicosia.
Although Scott McTominay’s goal saved the day for the Old Trafford club but the person who got the main limelight was Francis Uzoho as the Cypriot minnows looked set to share points with Erik ten Hag’s side.
Making a total of 11 saves, the Nigerian Goalkeeper denied the likes of Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo. But he finally got beaten by sub Scott McTominay in the dying minutes of the match.
The 23-year-old Nigerian international told that he grew up as a Manchester United supporter. Interestingly, he was the second-choice Goalkeeper for Omonia Nicosia. He got to play against the Red Devils because Fabiano Freitas was injured.
What do Francis Uzoho and David de Gea say about the performance?
Following his brilliant performance against Manchester United, Francis Uzoho got praised by several fans, supporters and opposition team Goalkeeper David de Gea. The whole stadium was applauding the Nigerian Goalkeeper, even United fans.
“It’s a dream come true [to play at Old Trafford]. I have dreamed of playing here for a long, long time. So when I saw the draw and figured I would be playing at Old Trafford, I wanted to play and prayed to God that I would get the opportunity to play. I got it and I am happy that I played here,” Uzoho told BT Sport after United’s 1-0 victory.
The shot-blocker also said that it was the best performance of his career. Because of Francis Uzoho, Omonia Nicosia thought that they can provide a historical result at Old Trafford. United Goalkeeper David de Gea also heaped praises on the 23-year-old.
David de Gea said, “I think he made eight or 10 great saves for his team in the game but in the end, we scored a goal and for sure he made a great game.”
After four matches, Manchester United are in the 2nd position, three points behind group leaders Real Sociedad.
