WWE superstars go through various character changes during their careers. Some of the changes are positive while few of them come as negative. Few of the superstars work better as faces while some show mastery in being a heel. Interestingly, the faces of WWE have also been heels at some point in their careers. It’s interesting to know that, John Cena commenced his career as a heel, but he turned babyface at the end of 2003 and never looked back.
While superstars such as Randy Orton and The Miz have portrayed a feel character for the majority of their careers in the business. 10. Goldberg
Goldberg is not a superstar that a wrestler will choose to fight against but his strength has always been top-notch. After making his debut in the company, he defeated Triple H and won the World Heavyweight Championship. But just after a year, he was released by the company. Later, he made his return in 2016 when he challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. Goldberg won the Universal Championship twice, once against Kevin Owens and then against Bray Wyatt. However, Goldberg always got highly booed by the WWE universe.
9. Sting
No one expected him to be on the list, but here you go. Sting was super loyal to WCW until its very last day. However, he joined WWE in 2014. Following his arrival, he started a feud against Triple H and lost his debut match at WrestleMania. He later challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at the Night of Champions in 2015. But during the match, Sting suffered a serious concussion which ended his WWE career. Next year, he got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
8. Kelly Kelly
During the Ruthless Aggression Era, Kelly Kelly was among the women’s division stars. For the majority of her career, she worked as an exhibitionist. Consequently, Fans loved Kelly’s Exposé segments. And if we look forward, it was the real reason why WWE hired her. She made her debut at the young age of 19 in ECW. She was always the face character in the business and she retired in 2012.
7. Braden Walker
Braden Walker was a great prospect and WWE would have done something far better with him. He was an absolute star in Total Nonstop Action as a part of America’s Most Wanted. He joined Vince McMahon’s promotion in 2008 but he was also fired only a few months later. He only competed in two televised fights.
6. Ricky Steamboat
Ricky Steamboat spent his whole WWE career as a fan favourite. Even Ricky Steamboat, the man himself wanted to turn heel at a time, but Pat Patterson declined all his requests because he thought that will ruin his career. His return in 2009 was also showered with love.
5. Bruno Sammartino
Bruno Sammartino has done a lot to build WWE into what it is today. His real-life story played a huge role in making him beloved in the eyes of fans. Sammartino’s immigration to the United States in World War 2 made his character more relatable and respectful. Bruno Sammartino was inducted into the 2018 Hall of Fame by WWE.
4. Rey Mysterio
Rey had a tiny heel run in WCW which failed miserably and since then, he has always been a babyface for WWE. The 619 specialist made his debut in the company in 2002. Since then, Mysterio is among the few superstars who always got love from side of the audience. The king of 619 is just too likeable to be a heel in the company. The memory of him winning the Royal Rumble will always stay young in the hearts of fans.
3. Hacksaw Jim Duggan
“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan signed for the promotion in 1987. He wasn’t really active in the company. And as a result of that, he wasn’t actually involved in any such big rivalries initially. But things blew up when “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan won the very first Royal Rumble match in 1988. He never turned his heel during his time with the company. He also later worked with WCW and TNA.
2. The Ultimate Warrior
The Ultimate Warrior was one of the greatest babyfaces the company ever had. He was a babyface for the majority of his career however, during his tenure in the World Class Championship Wrestling, he once turned heel in 1986. But he wasn’t the hero backstage. He had numerous unprofessional feuds and fights with other superstars off-screen.
1. Tito Santana
The best thing about Tito Santana is that he worked for numerous promotions during his career but never turned heel, even once. He joined WWE in 1979 and worked with the promotion for three years. Later he made his come back 1983 by winning the Intercontinental Championship. However, he wanted to turn heel in 1989 when WWE decided to part the Strike Force. But his proposal was denied.
