Real Madrid fans were generally dissatisfied with Vincius Junior’s performance in their team’s 3-2 UEFA Champions League group stage loss to RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
The Brazilian international began the attack on Madrid’s left flank. In the absence of Karim Benzema, Rodrygo started in the middle, with Marco Asensio on the right flank.
Fans Reaction to Real Madrid loss against RB Leipzig
Here are some of the reactions from Madrid fans who were dissatisfied with Vinicius after the defeat in Germany.
One fan said, “We could have won this game, but because of Vini Jr we lost this game, he let his teammates down today”.
Another tweeted, “Vinicius poor decision making in the final third, if you can’t shoot, pass and stop doing childish dribbles and unnecessary touches in front of GOAL. Playing rudiger LB is an obvious mistake”.
A third said, “Vinicius is depreciating. Camavinga best position is the bench, he has no creativity whatsoever. Rodrygo keeps coming back to help him create something. Carlo made a mistake with Rudiger in LB”.
Match Report
Leipzig led 2-0 after 18 minutes thanks to two quick goals from the second phase of two separate set pieces. In the 35th minute, Vinicius set up Rodrygo for a good chance, but the latter’s header was saved by Janis Blaswich.
Vinicius equalised for Real Madrid just before the 45-minute mark, bringing his team back into the game. However, it appears that Los Blancos fans were dissatisfied with what they saw from the Brazilian, particularly in the second half.
In the 81st minute, Timo Werner scored his team’s third goal, while Rodrygo’s penalty in stoppage time was only a consolation strike.
‘Vini’ chose to take on opposition defenders instead of releasing the ball early on two occasions, in the 64th and 74th minutes. Better decision-making could have brought Madrid back into the game with the score at 2-1 in both situations.
The good news for manager Carlo Ancelotti is that Real Madrid remains atop Group F of the Champions League table. Even a single point against the Germans on Tuesday could have guaranteed them the group title.
They have 10 points from five games, one more than Leipzig and four more than Shakhtar Donetsk, who are in third place. This effectively means they have advanced to the competition’s knockout rounds.
