Surpassing Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic became the only player in the history of tennis to win the French Open and The Paris Masters in the same year twice. Djokovic lifted the trophy in Paris yesterday by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the finals. It was his seventh Paris Masters title and 40th overall Masters Title.
There are only four players in the world to win the two biggest tournaments in Paris, The French Open and the Paris Masters. They are Ilie Nastase, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. And out of them only Ilie Nastase, Andre Agassi, and Novak Djokovic have been able to achieve in the same year.
Roger Federer has 20 Grand Slam titles to his name, constitutes only one French Open title which he won in 2009. He also won the Paris Masters only once in 2011 and became one of the very few players to have won both the tournaments in Paris.
Novak Djokovic‘s tally of 24 Grand Slams includes 10 Australian Open, three French Open, seven Wimbledon Open, and four US Open Titles. His three French Open titles came in the years 2016, 2021, and 2023 and his six Paris Masters titles came in the years 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2023.
He has won both tournaments thrice but when we factor in the filter of winning it in the same year, he is still unbeatable. He is the only player to have won both the French Open and the Paris Masters in the same year two times.
Rafael Nadal is the most successful player in the history of the French Open and won the title 14 times but is yet to win the Paris Masters Title.
The 36-year-old Serbian will next play in the ATP Finals in Turin and defend the World No. 1 spot. He has not lost a single match since the 2023 Wimbledon Open final and hopes to continue his momentum in Turin.
