The legendary player Pele’s birthplace of Santos organizes a huge tribute through drones in order to honor their star. The Brazilian legend recently died at the age of 82 in Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital, São Paulo, State of São Paulo, Brazil.
Pele made his Santos debut at the tender age of 15 and went on to score 1,091 goals in 1,116 games while playing for club football, collecting 45 trophies in the process.
Since then this place has become a site of pilgrimage for the devotional fans of Pele and because of this, a drone show was planned to prepare to honor their hero.
About the Drone Show
Following the death of “King Pele”, Brazil announced two days of nationwide mourning and this was extended to 7 days in Santo, Sao Paulo. Later the mood was brightened by a drizzling light show using 100s of drones enlightening the night sky with the name of their hero.
During the New Year’s celebrations on Saturday at Gonzaga Beach, the municipality of Santos conducted a drone show with 80 quadcopters to remember the football star Pele. The drones, which had lights attached, created a number of shapes in the sky, including the late Pele’s silhouette. Additionally, a live music performance was planned to welcome the new year. They also planned a screening of a little documentary on Pele’s life.
Pele’s Records with Santos
Pele’s goal records are something that has been a topic of debate for so long. Most of Pele’s goals came against friendlies which doesn’t carry much weight in football. To this, fans argue that the playing circumstances were different at the time and defenders could even break a player’s leg without receiving a foul or a penalty. But apart from this debate let’s have a look at his career stats with Santos.
So, Pele has scored a total of 680 club football goals and out of these 643 came only from Santos. Although 643 is utilized the majority of the time, some people think it’s 659 and others say it’s 665 due to the inconsistent statistical tracking at the time, the actual numbers were never recorded.
