An Argentine journalist was in tears when interviewing Lionel Messi, leaving the PSG star uncomfortable unsure how to respond.
The journalist in the video initiates a chat with Argentina’s captain, but is immediately overpowered by the man in front of him. First, a grateful slap on Messi’s knee, followed by tears at the sight of the man seated next to him.
Why did the journalist cried after seeing Lionel Messi?
It’s a usual reaction for Messi, but the 35-year-old appears to be at a loss for words in the face of such a barrage of emotion.
His first instinct is to smile and lie back on the sofa, making him appear very uneasy in the circumstance. The grin, though, quickly turns into warm laughter and a comforting touch on the journalist’s knee.
After settling the journalist from DIRECT TV Sports, Messi is able to collect himself and complete his talk with the PSG star.
What did Lionel Messi say after journalist got emotional?
As per AlbicelesteTalk, Messi said, “Thank you very much. I am excited to be able to reach people like this. There are many people in Argentina or in the world in general who always support me, admire me, from football and from what I am as a person… I am grateful for the affection I’m receiving”.
Giralt himself also tweeted the video, adding, “Grateful with life to have fulfilled one of my greatest dreams. Thank you Leo for your warmth and simplicity. You are very big. And thanks to everyone who was moved just like me and accompanied me on this wonderful journey. I love you Leo!”
Will Messi be able to win the World Cup?
Messi will be hoping for a similar reaction from Argentine supporters in next month’s World Cup, which he has already declared will be his final for his nation.
Argentina is now undefeated in 35 games and is one of the favourites to win the World Cup in Qatar. They open their campaign against Saudi Arabia before moving on to Group C, where they will face Poland and Mexico.
For him, leading Argentina to World Cup triumph would eclipse all of his past achievements in the sport, including his seven Ballon d’Or awards.
