WrestleMania is widely regarded as the biggest event in the world of professional wrestling. While WWE puts in every effort to make each year’s Showcase of the Immortals stand out, some of them are just not that special, or sometimes straight-up horrible.
With WrestleMania 39 less than a week away, let’s look at the top 5 worst WrestleMania ever:
5. WrestleMania 27
WrestleMania 27 will surely go down in history as one of the worst WrestleManias in history. The match card featured boring and lackluster matches, especially Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole. This was Lawler’s first match at the Showcase of the Immortals. He technically won the match after making Michael Cole submit, however, WWE decided to reverse that decision by making Cole the winner of the match. This went down as one of the worst, if not the worst Showcase of Immortals of all time.
The event also featured matches like Randy Orton vs CM Punk, which was one of the better matches. Triple H and The Undertaker’s clash was the match of the night. However, the match between John Cena and The Miz turned out to be a lackluster main event.
4. WrestleMania 11
WWE at that time was clashing with WCW. WCW definitely provided some tough competition to WWE. This is evident from the fact that WrestleMania 11 was a total bore and a pain to sit through.
The event featured matches like Diesel vs Shawn Michaels, which was okay for the most part. Another notable match is Lex Luger and The British Bulldog vs The Blu Brothers. The show was main evented by Bam Bam Bigelow vs Lawrence Taylor. It wasn’t a horrible match, but it didn’t feel like it was a match that deserved to be on the main event.
3. WrestleMania 4
This year’s Showcase of the Immortals was pretty disappointing in comparison to the previous year’s April Extravaganza. Almost all of the matches were pretty short, and the main event ended up being Ted DiBiase vs Randy Savage.
One match that was better than most is the opening 20-man Battle Royale match. Bret Hart gave a fantastic performance in that match.
2. WrestleMania 9
At this specific point in time, WWE was short on talent. Even Hulk Hogan was about to leave. No wonder this ended up as one of the worst WrestleManias as well.
There were not enough matches, and even the ones that happened contributed nothing to making the event feel like a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience. The main event was Yokozuna vs Bret Hart, where Yokozuna emerged victorious and won the World Championship. However, he lost it to Hulk Hogan minutes after winning it.
1. WrestleMania 13
WWE was facing tough competition from WCW, who were beating them on a weekly basis. It was clear that WWE’s talent wasn’t up to par.
The event considered matches like Steve Austin vs Bret Hart, Owen Hart, and The British Bulldog vs Mankind and Vader. The matches were nothing special. The main event was The Undertaker vs Psycho Sid, which was a decent match.
Catch this year’s Showcase of The Immortals on the WWE Network on April 1 & 2.
