Morocco made history tonight as they beat Spain in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup and made their place in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
After ending the game 0-0 even, after 120 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout where Spain failed to convert every shot they took. Moroccan goalkeeper “Yassine Bounou” did an excellent job, by saving every penalty taken by the Spanish players.
However, at the end of extra time before the penalty shootout, Spain gives a little extra push by attacking constantly. That is where they got few great chances because their past record in the penalty shootout was very bad.
They have lost three of their four World Cup shootout. Additionally, they were unable to win five of their seven games which goes to extra time and fans are not very pleased with the results. Let’s have a look at fans’ reactions on the game.
Fans Reaction
Yes, most of their shot were not like they are here to win. Hence, they missed all the chances.
Not going to add my opinion on this, it is all up to you.
As some fans demand his retirement, that is what the boss said about his future with Spanish National Football Team, “Next week, we will speak and discuss about my future, now it’s not the right time. I’m the one responsible”. He takes full responsibility for the loss.
Morocco Vs Spain
Morocco, they were very strong defensively, but Spain was not “bad” in the game, they even created very good chances, beating the Moroccan defense but the luck was not on their side.
The greatest opportunity came from Morocco in the first half, such as a close-range header by defender Nayef Aguerd that went over, while Spain, who controlled possession but offered little threat, saw Marco Asensio hit the side-netting. The second period’s opportunities were likewise few.
So in the end, Morocco surprised the world with their performance, not in just this game but throughout the tournament. They played really well and the win is well deserved.
“We were first in the group, and I think we already deserve a little respect. I think Spain knows it, and they have to be a little afraid of us. They have to be afraid of us, the truth,” Achraf Hakimi has said.
