This year’s ATP Awards have been declared and tennis fans reacted to Jannik Sinner winning the Fan Favorite award.
The ATP Awards are a list of awards given by the ATP to players and others of particular distinction during a given season. One such award is the ATP Fans Favourite Award, which started in the year 2000. This award is voted online solely by tennis fans from the top 25 singles players and the top 15 doubles teams from the ATP rankings.
Only four players have managed to win the title and among them, Federer won the title 19 consecutive times starting in 2003 till 2021. It was broken by Rafael Nadal in 2022 and this year it was Jannik Sinner who came out as the fan’s favorite.
Jannik Sinner’s performance throughout the season and especially towards the end of the year is what made him a fan favourite. He won four singles titles, reached the final of the Nitto ATP Finals, and led Italy to their first Davis Cup victory since 1976.
Despite his win, he could not snatch the limelight from the retired Swiss maestro. It gives an idea about Federer’s fan base and it is possibly one of the reasons for the longevity in his career.
As soon as this year’s list of awardees was out, it received mixed reactions from fans for the fact that Novak Djokovic who had one of his best seasons and has consistently played well for so many years couldn’t win the award even once.
One fan commented that the award should be given to Federer until his death.
They should still give it to Federer, until he is dead 💀🤣😈👹💀

Who determines the winner? Is it the public? ATP members ? Players? Unbelievable Novak has not win it a single year.

You think Federer would trade all these fan favourite awards for "the GOAT" status? pic.twitter.com/YObasu5Ka0
