Former Wimbledon Open champion Elena Rybakina expresses her long-term goals as she gears up for the next season.
Russian-born Kazakh player Rybakina has been one of the most consistent and impressive players in the last few years in the WTA Tour.
Elena Rybakina revealed that her main goal is to reach the No.1 spot but at the same time, she hopes for a better run at the Grand Slams in the future.
Rybakina has achieved one of her goals by winning the Wimbledon Open in 2022.
She had a pretty good campaign in 2023 as she came very close to winning her second Grand Slam at the Australian Open where she finished as the runners-up.
She won two singles titles that too at Masters 1000 tournaments, firstly at the Indian Wells and then at the Italian Open in Rome. Her campaign was affected by an injury and illness preventing her from performing her best at some of the tournaments.
Her other goal of reaching the No.1 in the rankings is yet to be fulfilled. Her efforts did help her achieve her career-best ranking of No.3 in June. She also competed in the WTA Finals and ended the season as the No.4 player.
She is currently playing at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi. In conversation with the Kazakh news channel Gulf News, she expressed her goals for the next season.
“Of course, the main goal is to become the world No.1 one day but the priority is always to do well in the Grand Slams. So I think the goals are quite the same.”
