Anthony Gordon has issued a statement following his unsuccessful transfer to Chelsea. During the just closed summer transfer window, the striker was heavily connected with a move to Chelsea, which was one of the most talked about moves.
Everton did everything they could to keep Anthony Gordon during the congested transfer season, with the London club enticing them with offers on the table.
What has Gordon said about after his deal collapsed with Chelsea?
The youngster has had a strong start to the season, scoring twice in the Premier League, and feels he may make Gareth Southgate’s selection for the World Cup in Qatar. Gordon has around six weeks to make an impression on England boss Gareth Southgate before the roster is announced.
Gordon said, “That’s football nowadays – it’s absolutely crazy. Personally, I don’t think any player is worth that amount of money – but I’m also not going to talk myself down’.
“I think the minute you do that (thinking he is a £60m player), there’s only one way you’re going to go. You need to stay humble. You need to focus on today and tomorrow and don’t look too far into the future. That’s part and parcel of football”.
He further added, “When you’re doing well, there’s always going to be that speculation. But because the place is so good, it’s not a place where I’m devastated because I have to stay. That’s never been the case. I was never desperate to leave Everton. It was definitely not the case”.
Why did the deal collapsed with Anthony Gordon?
Everton refused Chelsea’s £60 million deal because they did not wanted Gordon to depart during the summer transfer window. The presence of Frank Lampard has been a boon to the youngster who was promoted to the senior team.
Since Gordon’s debut, he has been an outstanding player who has established himself as an important member of the squad. He isn’t the only player at Everton who Frank Lampard has helped develop into their full potential, as Alex Iwobi is another.
