Rafael Nadal’s former coach, Toni Nadal, made a big prediction for the star player’s future; he believes that the ‘King of Clay’ can still rule at Roland Garros.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion has had to wither harsh luck in recent years with injuries becoming a common theme for this stage of his career. Rafa was expected to make a strong push this year and should’ve been cleared of any possible setbacks.
But, things would turn for the worse again. Soon after his comeback in January at the Brisbane International, the Spaniard suffered another minor tear that sidelined him for the Australian Open and now the Qatar Open. As he sets his eye, on overcoming his injury once again, he is expected to make a return at this year’s Indian Wells tournament.
The name of Rafael Nadal can never be separated from Roland Garros. More and more expectations continue to build up for his comeback not only to Tennis but to his favorite surface in the world at Roland Garros. His uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal opined on this subject recently in a talk at the ‘Alfonso X El Sabio University’.
According to Rafa’s uncle, there are high hopes that his nephew returns to Roland Garros this year to go at it once again.
“I still think that he will participate in the championship [Roland Garros] and that he will be the champion.”
Uncle Toni also expressed his expectations of his nephew winning another Gold medal at this year’s Olympics to add to his already illustrious trophy cabinet.
“It’s always a very special event [the Olympics]. I remember that Rafa told me on one occasion that the best experience of his life had been to go to Beijing in 2008 because of the atmosphere that was lived with the rest of the athletes. I hope that he can win another medal,” Uncle Toni said about the Olympics.
