Patrick Mouratoglou recently announced that he’ll be joining World No. 7, Holger Rune once again as his Head coach. The surprising news came after Rune had lost his previous coaches Boris Becker and Severin Luthi last month.
While Holger Rune has shown great potential and has already won a Masters title, he has yet not hit the ground running. Soon after the early successes with Patrick, the player fizzled in the later tournaments which eventually left him disgruntled.
He would go on to fire Patrick at that time and hire Boris Becker. The Becker era would also last for only six months and an eventual fallout in the Australian Open would mark their last significant run together.
The Frenchman, Patrick Mouratoglou who had previously played the Head coach role for Holger for two different stints in 2021 and 2022 is set to make a comeback with the Dane. The decision comes at a very crucial stage of Rune’s career where a certain amount of stability is required for him to truly recognize and capitalize on his potential.
“I am excited to start a new collaboration with Holger Rune. We have known each other since he was 13 years old and I always believed in his potential. He has high goals and so do I for him. It is the start of a new adventure. See you guys in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami,” Mouratoglou wrote in an Instagram post.
However, not all fans seem impressed by Rune’s decision to bring back his former coach. One fan mocked Rune’s continuous struggles to stick with a coach with him changing his underwear.
“Guy changing his coaches like i do my underwear,” wrote the troller joking on the situation.
But, coach Patrick couldn’t let the disrespect slide and clapped back at the troller.
“@cappolous you change your underwear every 6 months/8 months?” Patrick sarcastically responded to the troll.

“Anyone can make a mistake,” Patrick Mouratoglou lets off Holger Rune for criticizing him for their last stint
In a recent quote by newly hired head coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, the Frenchman made sure that both he and his player are on the same plane. He discarded the rumours of any apparent ‘rift’ or ‘grudge’ between them.
Many tennis fans were surprised by the re-union of this player-coach pair. So, one fan on Instagram questioned the integrity of the pair and the decision to be partners again. He cited Rune’s quote from Breaking Point: Season 2 where he called out Patrick for being a lazy coach.
“Talking bad on Netflix, saying he [Patrick Mouratoglou] is lazy and just sitting around and now workin together again – dont get that? 😅,” the fan questioned.
To which, the Frenchman responded that he does not hold back grudges from that incident and has already forgiven him, indicating that the incident was in the past. Mouratoglou also said that Rune was just a human, and he’s flawed like everyone else.
“@cappolous anyone can make a mistake. I forgive,” the Frenchman replied.
